JUMP UP RECORDS was founded by Chicago ska/reggae DJ Chuck Wren in 1993, and from the get-go became one of the world's top labels during the third wave ska heyday, fueled by the popular American Skathic compilation series.
After the "boom" ended, JUMP UP dug it’s heels in for the long haul - from 2000-2003 it was the only American ska label that continued to regularly release new traditional ska music. In 2003, the label went one step further and single handedly revived the US ska scene by releasing the groundbreaking 80+ band Still Standing 4xCD collection.
Today, the label specializes in modern bands who play original Jamaican ska, roots reggae, rock steady, dub, and calypso. JUMP UP is the home to many of the USA's top ska/reggae acts including ROGER RIVAS (THE AGGROLITES), CRAZY BALDHEAD, DAVE HILLYARD (THE SLACKERS), DEAL’S GONE BAD, GREEN ROOM ROCKERS, BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS, CHRIS MURRAY COMBO. BIG SKA BAND (featuring Corey Glover) and THE CROMBIES – plus they release music from a growing number of international acts: KINGSTON RUDIESKA (South Korea), MEOW MEOWS (UK), KING HAMMOND (UK), DESORDEN PUBLICO (Venezuela), NAPOLEON SOLO (Denmark), and BRIXTON SOUNDS (Mexico). JUMP UP is also where many original Jamaican legends continue to release new music, including CHARLEY ORGANAIRE, MONTY NEYSMITH of SYMARIP, WINSTON FRANCIS, LADY ANN, and SUSAN CADOGAN. In addition, many third wave and 2 Tone acts also work with JUMP UP to reissue their best works on vinyl, most notibly THE TOASTERS, RODDY RADIATION of THE SPECIALS, and MEPHISKAPHELES.
